Election roadmap to be announced this week: EC secretary

The Election Commission (EC) will unveil the roadmap for the 13th National Parliamentary Election within this week, said Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed on Monday (August 18).

Speaking to reporters at the Election Commission headquarters, he said a draft roadmap has already been prepared and is currently being coordinated across relevant divisions.

“The draft has been placed before the commission for approval, and we will be able to publish it within this week,” he added.

In response to a question on election-time security, the secretary said, “Law and order is an issue for later. At this moment, there is no reason for concern. Each authority is organizing its responsibilities, and once everyone is aligned, it will be fine.”

Akhtar Ahmed further noted that coordination with field administration, defining responsibilities of officials, appointing focal persons, and issuing related circulars are being discussed in ongoing meetings to ensure preparations are completed ahead of schedule.

Regarding constituency boundaries, the secretary informed that hearings on objections to delimitation will begin on Sunday (August 24).

Out of 300 constituencies, more than 1,500 objections have been filed regarding 83 constituencies. The commission is working to resolve these quickly.

On polling centers and booths, he said there are about 129 million registered voters this time. “In the monthly coordination meeting, we discussed the policy on polling centers. The number of centers will not be increased, though adjustments may be made based on rational grounds.”

Addressing questions about youth-only booths, he said the issue has not yet been discussed by the EC. “If the authorities decide, it will be implemented.”

The secretary also said that investigation has begun into the 22 political parties that passed the preliminary screening for registration.

Letters have been sent to examine their offices and committees. Meanwhile, 121 parties that failed the process are also being notified in writing, with specific reasons for rejection clearly mentioned.
