Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed on Sunday indicated that changes may be made at the top level of the police administration, though he said the process would take some time.
Speaking to reporters at the Secretariat after a courtesy meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office, Salahuddin said adjustments are expected but did not provide details. “Some changes will come, but it will take time,” he said.
The home minister also spoke about the upcoming session of the Jatiya Sangsad, saying it has been decided that the President’s notification to convene parliament must be issued at least 15 days in advance. He said a summary will be sent from the Parliament Secretariat to the Prime Minister’s Office and then forwarded to the President for approval.
According to the plan, the next parliamentary session is set to begin on March 12. Salahuddin, who is also a standing committee member of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, said the agenda for the session was discussed at the meeting.
He said all ordinances issued during the interim government’s tenure will be placed before parliament. As per parliamentary tradition, a proposal will be moved and the President will deliver a speech, followed by other regular business.
Responding to questions, Salahuddin said there has been no discussion yet on electing a new President or Speaker.
Commenting on a reported terrorist incident in Mohammadpur on Saturday, he said he has ordered an investigation and asked for a report. “If such incidents occur, strict action will be taken,” the home minister added.
