State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury expressed optimism about Bangladesh`s developmental trajectory under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina`s leadership.
Speaking at a discussion meeting on `Smart Bangladesh of Liberation War` hosted by the Bangladesh Film Journalists Association (Bachsas) at the National Press Club on Monday, Chowdhury emphasized the country`s progress.
Chowdhury highlighted the significance of the nation`s journey since independence, citing the tragic assassination of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as a setback. He underscored how the country plunged into darkness after the assassination, noting the dire socio-cultural consequences that followed.
Reflecting on the post-independence era, Chowdhury lamented the lack of awareness about the liberation war and the sacrifices made by the people. He criticized the governance during that period, attributing Bangladesh`s struggles to the leadership of subsequent governments.
Quoting Fidel Castro, Chowdhury remarked on the decline Bangladesh experienced post-1975 under successive administrations. However, he credited Sheikh Hasina`s leadership for steering the country towards progress and development.
Chowdhury outlined a vision for a `Smart Bangladesh` by 2041, emphasizing the importance of human development and collective effort. He called for concerted action to achieve this goal, highlighting the need for continued development initiatives.
The discussion meeting was chaired by Bachsas President Raju Alim, with Selina Shiuli delivering a presentation on `Smart Bangladesh of Liberation War.`
