Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, the head of Jamaat-e-Islami, has said that women should have the right to wear whatever they want, without anyone telling them what to do.
Speaking at a workers` meeting in Satkhira on Saturday afternoon, 30th November, Rahman pointed out that women have always played important roles in history.
He said, “The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) included women in many important activities, even on the battlefield. Who are we to restrict them? Women should be able to contribute to the country in whatever way they can. We won’t force them to follow any specific dress code. They should have the freedom to choose their clothes.”
Rahman also addressed some of the negative perceptions about Jamaat-e-Islami, saying,
"Mothers and sisters should be safe at home and in the workplace. No one should look at them with bad intentions. There are false claims that if Jamaat-e-Islami comes to power, women will be forced to stay at home. But I assure you, this will never happen."
The Jamaat leader described Bangladesh as a country with strong communal harmony but warned that there are some bad influences trying to disrupt that peace.
“We must stay cautious of these dangerous elements,” he said.
Rahman also spoke about past violence, accusing the previous government of being responsible for the deaths of 57 army officers and the killing of several Jamaat leaders.
He added, "Despite the brutality we have faced, we have never backed down. We are committed to building a better Bangladesh, and those who love this country will never give up on it."
The speech, which touched on key issues like women`s rights, national unity, and past political struggles, drew strong reactions from those present.
