Large parts of Bangladesh are expected to receive more rain in the coming days as the southwest monsoon gains strength and moves further into the country, bringing a higher chance of thunderstorms and offering relief from the recent spell of intense heat.

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said monsoon conditions are becoming more active, with an existing trough stretching from West Bengal to the North Bay continuing to influence weather patterns.

The monsoon is also expected to reach the Cox’s Bazar coast within the next two days.

Weather officials forecast rain and thunder showers in different regions through June 10. Many areas may also experience lightning and temporary gusty winds, while some locations could see heavy rainfall.

During the next 24 hours, rain is likely in parts of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions.

Moderate to heavy showers are expected in several places.

The increased rainfall may help weaken the ongoing mild to moderate heat wave affecting Rajshahi, Khulna and Barishal divisions, as well as districts including Dhaka, Tangail, Faridpur, Chandpur, Noakhali and Rangamati.

Meteorologists said temperatures are likely to drop slightly during both day and night as cloud cover increases.

However, higher humidity levels may continue to cause discomfort despite the cooler conditions.
From June 6 to June 7, rainfall is expected to become more widespread, particularly across Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, Sylhet, Dhaka and Mymensingh divisions. Several areas could receive moderate to heavy rainfall during this period.

Showers are expected to continue on June 8, especially in southern and eastern parts of the country, with the possibility of heavier downpours in some locations.

Weather activity may become even stronger on June 9. Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions are likely to see frequent rain and thunderstorms, while some places could experience very heavy rainfall.

Other divisions, including Rangpur, Dhaka, Rajshahi, Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram, are also expected to receive rainfall.

According to the BMD outlook, monsoon conditions will continue strengthening over the next five days, leading to a further increase in rainfall across the country.
