1,556 arrested countrywide during special police drive

As part of an ongoing special operation, police have arrested a total of 1,556 individuals in a single day across the country, including the capital Dhaka.

Among those detained, 1,029 were wanted in various cases, while 527 were arrested for involvement in other criminal activities.

The police headquarters confirmed the information on Saturday, stating that the arrests were made during countrywide raids conducted on Friday.

During the operations, law enforcement officials also seized several weapons and illegal items. The recovered items include cartridges of five Chinese rifles, one knife, a metal hammer, two locally made weapons, four mobile phones, two locally made one-shooter guns, a 12-bore cartridge, three machetes, two metal daggers, empty cartridges of three 0.303 rifles, a Burmese knife, nine live shotgun shells, and four spent bullet casings.

The police headquarters further stated that the special nationwide operation will continue as part of their efforts to combat crime. Legal proceedings against the arrested individuals are currently underway.
