BNP-backed panel sweeps Supreme Court Bar Association election, secures 13 posts

The BNP-backed panel secured 13 out of 14 posts, including president and secretary, in the 2026–27 executive committee election of the Supreme Court Bar Association.

Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon was elected president, while Mohammad Ali of the same panel was elected secretary.

The results were announced around 2:00am early today by Election Sub-Committee Convener Justice Md Miftah Uddin Choudhury.

Of the 14 posts contested in the election, the BNP-backed panel won 13, while the Jamaat-backed panel secured one post.

Earlier, a total of 4,048 votes were cast in the two-day election.

Voting took place at the auditorium of the Supreme Court Bar Association from 10:00am to 5:00pm on 13 and 14 May, with a one-hour lunch break in between.

The winners from the BNP panel are: A M Mahbub Uddin Khokon as president; Md Magfur Rahman Sheikh and Md Shahjahan as vice-presidents; Mohammad Ali as secretary; Md Ziaur Rahman as treasurer; and Mohammad Samsul Islam Mukul and Maksud Ullah as assistant secretaries.

The elected members are AKM Azad Hossain, HM Shanjid Siddiqi, Md Kabir Hossain, Md Tipu Sultan, Md Zia Uddin Mia and Wahid Afroz Chowdhury.

Md Azim Uddin Patwary of the Jamaat-backed panel won one of the seven member posts.
