The International Crimes Tribunal-1 has issued arrest warrants against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 27 others in two separate cases related to crimes against humanity committed through enforced disappearances during the previous Awami League government.
The three-member tribunal, headed by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mojumder, issued the warrants on Wednesday. The other two members of the tribunal are Justice Md Shafiul Alam Mahmood and Justice Md Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury.
Among those named in the warrants are former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan and former Defense Adviser to the Prime Minister, Major General (Retd) Tariq Ahmed Siddique.
Earlier in the day, the prosecution formally submitted charges in both cases to the tribunal. Prosecutor Gazi Monowar Hossain Tamim said that one of the cases involves Sheikh Hasina, Tariq Ahmed Siddique, and 15 others—totaling 17 accused—against whom five charges have been filed.
In the second case, Sheikh Hasina, Tariq Ahmed Siddique, and 11 others—totaling 13 accused—face five separate charges as well.
