Following a brawl between two Awami League factions` supporters this afternoon during actor Ferdous Ahmed`s election campaign in the capital`s Hatirpool, at least thirty people were hurt.
Ferdous, an AL candidate, is running in the upcoming 12th national election (to be held on January 7, 2024) from the Dhaka-10 seat.
Bacchu Mia, Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) police outpost Inspector, said, the injured were provided treatment at the hospital.
Around 1:45 p.m., according to Mosharaf Hossain Raja, Labour Affairs Secretary of Dhaka city Awami League`s Ward-18 unit, he and his fellows joined Ferdous`s election campaign.
The campaign procession was attacked by Hatirpool`s Central Road Unit AL President Imam Hossain Manzil and his supporters as soon as it left Hatirpool and headed towards Central Road.
Mosharaf claimed that they used sticks to beat their activists.
Manzil was unavailable to comment in this regard.
Anindra Chowdhury, 23, Russell, 30, Abdul Jalil, 38, Sohel Khan, 28, Mahi, 25, Ibrahim, 35, Alif, 35, Jony Babu, 30, and Ujjal Hossain, 30 are among the injured.
The officer in charge of the New Market Police Station, Aminul Islam, stated he was not informed of the incident.
