Ex-state minister Mizanur Rahman Sinha passes away

Mizanur Rahman Sinha, former Member of Parliament for Munshiganj-2 and former State Minister for Health and Family Welfare, has died (Inna Lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un). He passed away at around 2 a.m. on Friday night after undergoing long-term medical treatment in Singapore. He was 83.

His daughter, Tasnim Sinha, confirmed the news on social media.

Sinha had long been active in the politics of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). He also served as the party’s central committee treasurer. Nominated by the BNP, he won the Munshiganj-2 (Tongibari–Louhajang) parliamentary seat in both the 1996 and 2001 national elections. He later served as State Minister for Health and Family Welfare from 2003 to 2006.

He stepped down from all BNP posts and responsibilities in January 2020. However, in February 2025, he was appointed convener of the Munshiganj district BNP. He also received the BNP nomination for the upcoming 13th national parliamentary election for Munshiganj-2, but was later taken to Singapore for treatment after falling seriously ill.

Born on 18 August 1943 in Dohuri village of Louhajang upazila in Munshiganj, Sinha was also the Managing Director of leading industrial conglomerate ACME Group. Alongside his political career, he was widely known in his locality for social and philanthropic work.
