Nurul Haque Nur, President of Gono Odhikar Parishad, declared that the Awami League will have no role in the future of Bangladesh, urging vigilance to prevent any resurgence of "fascism" under the party‍‍`s leadership.

Speaking as the chief guest at a rally organized by the Gazipur District Gono Odhikar Parishad on Wednesday at Maona intersection in Gazipur, Nur asserted, "As long as we live, there will be no space for the Awami League in this country. We have defeated their fascist rule through struggle, and we must continue to resist them."

Nur accused foreign powers, including India, of attempting to restore the Awami League to power, suggesting that the recent release of politician Saber Hossain Chowdhury was part of this effort.

In his speech, he criticized the current economic situation, highlighting the rising costs of essential goods and the suffering faced by the public. "People are struggling today due to high prices. Floods in some northern areas have damaged crops, leading to reduced production and price hikes. The government, which is not a political entity, must prioritize preventing public suffering," he stated.

He called for continued subsidies on essential commodities such as rice, lentils, potatoes, and oil.

Regarding the upcoming national elections, Nur emphasized that reforms must precede any electoral process. "It will take two years for an election. We do not support holding elections without the necessary reforms first," he added.

Nur credited the grassroots resistance of ordinary citizens and students for the ousting of Sheikh Hasina’s government. "The people‍‍`s and students‍‍` resistance has brought us freedom. While this movement was led by political figures, it would not have succeeded without the sacrifices of ordinary students," he remarked.

Addressing the interim government, Nur expressed a willingness to assist, saying, "People didn’t put you in power just for an election. You must fulfill public expectations by reforming the state and creating a people-friendly government."

He concluded, "We will support you until power is handed over to elected representatives after the reforms, but your current approach is concerning."
