BNP’s acting chairman, Tarique Rahman, is set to join his party’s ongoing 48-hour protest virtually, addressing the demands for a fair share of Teesta River water and the implementation of the Teesta Master Plan.

The protest, organized by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), is taking place across 11 points along the Teesta River in three districts of the Rangpur division.

Shamsuddin Didar, a member of BNP‍‍`s press wing, confirmed that Tarique Rahman will virtually connect with the BNP rally at approximately 5 PM on Tuesday, February 18.

His participation comes as part of the party’s broader efforts to bring attention to the Teesta water-sharing issue, a key concern in the region.

Since Monday, BNP has been running this protest under the banner "Jago Bahe, Teesta Bachai" (Rise Up, Save Teesta), emphasizing the need to secure Bangladesh‍‍`s rightful share of Teesta water from India.

The 48-hour campaign began simultaneously in Lalmonirhat, Rangpur, and Gaibandha districts and is expected to conclude later on Tuesday evening.

During a rally on Monday, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir reiterated the party‍‍`s demand that the interim government must press India for a fair share of Teesta River water.

His remarks underline the urgency of resolving this long-standing issue, which has affected millions of lives in northern Bangladesh.

The Teesta water-sharing dispute has been a sensitive topic for years, and BNP‍‍`s protest is seen as a strategic move to push for action.

The program is likely to draw significant public attention, especially with Tarique Rahman’s virtual participation, adding momentum to the party’s efforts in highlighting the issue at both national and international levels.

As the 48-hour protest wraps up, all eyes will be on whether the government will respond to BNP‍‍`s demands and take steps towards securing a fair deal for Bangladesh in the Teesta water-sharing agreement.
