Blood, screams, and terror: Saif Ali Khan’s close call with a knife-wielding attacker

Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan has shared a harrowing account of a recent attack at his Bandra residence. 

The incident took place on January 16 at the Sadguru Sharan building, where a man named Shariful Islam Shehzad was arrested after allegedly attempting to harm the actor and his family.

The police recorded Saif’s statement on Thursday at his home. 

Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), Satyanarayan Choudhury, confirmed the development. 

Saif recalled the terrifying night, explaining how he and his wife, Kareena Kapoor Khan, were in their bedroom on the 11th floor when he suddenly heard their son Jehangir’s (Jeh) nanny screaming.

In a panic, Saif and Kareena rushed to Jeh‍‍`s room and found an intruder. 

"I heard my son‍‍`s nanny shouting, and when I went to Jeh’s room, I saw her arguing with a man holding a knife," Saif told the police. "Sensing something was wrong, I tried to stop him."

He continued,

"The attacker then began to slash at me with the knife. I was hit on my back, neck, and hands. Meanwhile, Jeh’s nanny took him out of the room to safety. Somehow, I managed to free myself and lock the attacker inside the room." 

Saif described how his wife and children were left horrified by the sight of him covered in blood. "Seeing me like that, Kareena and my sons were terrified. I was then taken to the hospital."

The police later found the attacker’s fingerprints at several spots in the building, including on the staircase, bathroom door, and the handle of Jeh’s bedroom door. 

After matching these prints with Shehzad’s, the police filed charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code. 

The accused has been remanded in police custody for five days by the Bandra Holiday Court.
