Dhaka University (DU) has declared a one-day holiday for Sunday, in tribute to the passing of former Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. A. A. M. S. Arefin Siddique.
The decision was made to show respect and admiration for the late academic leader, in line with the university`s long-standing tradition.
This was confirmed in an official statement from the university’s Public Relations Office on Saturday.
In addition to the holiday, the university has followed its customary practices to inform the community about the details of Professor Arefin Siddique’s funeral.
The campus has witnessed announcements via loudspeakers, a published condolence message, and a special prayer held at the central mosque.
Arrangements for the funeral and burial were made in consultation with his family, who decided on the time and location for the ceremonies.
Professor Arefin Siddique passed away on Thursday at Ibrahim Cardiac Hospital in the capital after battling illness.
Following two rounds of funeral prayers, he was buried at Azimpur Graveyard on Friday.
At the time of his death, Professor Arefin Siddique was 71 years old.
According to his family, he fell ill on March 6 while at Dhaka Club in Ramna, where he had gone to buy iftar.
While standing and speaking, he suddenly collapsed.
He was quickly rushed to the hospital, where he was placed in the Neuro ICU and remained on life support until his passing.
