Digital content creator Ashraful Hossain Alam alias Hero Alam got back his candidacy in the Dhaka-17 by-election on Thursday following an appeal.
Jaker Party’s candidate Kazi Md Rashidul Hasan also got back his candidacy, reports UNB.
Ashok Kumar Debnath, additional secretary of the Election Commission (EC) said the two candidates including Hero Alam got back their candidacies after appeal hearing.
Two more independent candidates- Tariqul Islam Bhuiyan and Asaduzzaman Jala- didn’t get back their candidacies in the hearing, he said.
A gazette in this regard will be issued next Sunday, the EC official said.
The Election Commission on Sunday cancelled the nomination papers of Hero Alam and seven others for the Dhaka-17 by-election.
Fifteen intending candidates submitted nomination papers for contesting the polls and seven of them were declared valid while the others were scrapped.
The constituency became vacant after the death of legendary actor and MP from Dhaka-17 constituency Akbar Hossain Pathan, popularly known as Farooque, on May 15.
As per the schedule, the last date for withdrawal of nomination papers is June 25 and symbols will be allotted on June 26. The election will be held on July 17.
