Lawyer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Advocate Mohammad Shishir Monir said that the government has withdrawn the notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs banning the politics of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing, Islami Chhatra Shibir.
The official gazette confirming this withdrawal is expected to be published today.
He also noted that the decision to lift the ban was made under concern of Chief Adviser of the interim government Dr Yunus and his cabinet`s Law Adviser, Asif Nazrul.
Monir stated that with the withdrawal of the ban, the next step will be to initiate a legal battle to reinstate the registration of the organizations.
He also noted that the Awami League government had previously imposed the ban as a means to divert student movement in a different direction.
As the student movement reached its peak and the government of Sheikh Hasina faced mounting pressure, the Awami League administration issued a notification on August 1 banning the politics of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing, Islami Chhatra Shibir.
Shekh Hasina resigned and flew to India on August 5 followed by a deadly student protest.
