BNP Standing Committee member Major (Retd.) Hafizuddin Ahmed has questioned whether there could be any involvement of India in the recent attack on the residence of Bangladesh‍‍`s founding leader, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, at 32 Dhanmondi.

Hafizuddin believes this attack could be a significant setback to the country‍‍`s democratic growth.

Speaking at a discussion organized by the Independence Forum at the National Press Club on Thursday afternoon, Hafiz expressed concern about the current state of affairs and said the people of Bangladesh want neutrality from the interim government.

He said, “The attack on the house at 32 Dhanmondi started last night, and it’s still ongoing. We don’t know who is behind this attack yet, nor do we know what role the government is playing. We’ll wait a little longer. By the end of today, we’ll hopefully have clarity on who is responsible for this incident. Once we have all the facts, we’ll share our position with the media.”

Hafizuddin also expressed his view on the motives behind the attack, saying, “We believe this is an attempt to disrupt the future of democracy in Bangladesh. And we’ll investigate whether the neighboring country (India) is involved in any way.”

The BNP leader warned about the dangers of authoritarianism, stressing the importance of unity. He added,

“We must not forget the oppressive nature of fascism. It’s crucial for us to stay united. Sheikh Hasina, from a neighboring country, is constantly trying to destabilize Bangladesh.”

He urged BNP leaders and members to stay calm and face the situation with patience.
