In a case brought under the Digital Security Act of 2018, the DB Cyber and Special Crime Division has submitted a charge sheet against Nurul Haque Nur, a former vice president (VP) of the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU).
Inspector Muhammad Saiful Islam of the DB Cyber and Special Crime Division, who is also the case's investigating officer, has asked the court to issue an arrest warrant for Nur because he is absconding.
SI Shah Alam of Paltan Police Station confirmed the matter, saying that the investigating officer submitted the charge sheet to the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate's Court on January 31, as his (Nur) crime initially appeared to be true during the investigation.
"The case has been transferred to the Cyber Tribunal for trial. Further judicial proceedings will be held there," the police official said.
On April 19, 2021, musician Elias Hossain filed a case under the Digital Security Act with the capital's Paltan police station, accusing Nur of hurting religious sentiments by making derogatory comments during a live video on the social media platform Facebook.
According to the charge sheet, he made false, derogatory, and provocative statements against Awami League activists and leaders.
