A fresh survey by Innovision Consulting indicates a significant generational shift in Bangladesh’s political landscape, with Jamaat-e-Islami gaining unprecedented traction among Gen Z voters.
According to the poll, 30.84 percent of respondents under 25 back Jamaat for the upcoming elections, nearly matching BNP’s 33.06 percent support within the same age group.
The study also finds Jamaat’s appeal waning among older demographics, falling to 24.04 percent among voters over 60.
Analysts link the surge in youth support to recent political unrest, where Gen Z played a pivotal role, suggesting younger voters now see Jamaat as a fresh alternative to traditional parties.
“This shift signals a potential Islamist resurgence driven by the young,” said one political observer, adding that Jamaat’s focus on social justice resonates strongly with post-transition sentiments. However, critics warn the trend could deepen polarization ahead of the national polls.
