Professor Mia Golam Parwar, the Secretary of Jamaat-e-Islami, has urged the interim government to complete essential reforms and announce an election roadmap within the next six months.
He made this call during a workers` gathering held at the Bhola Government Boys` High School field on Saturday afternoon.
Addressing the crowd as the chief guest, Professor Parwar emphasized the importance of ensuring that the controversial elections like those in 2018 and 2024 do not happen again. He stated,
"We will not allow elections like `18 and `24 to happen again in Bangladesh. Our main goal now is to prevent any repeat of the circumstances that forced the fascist Sheikh Hasina to shamelessly leave the country."
The Jamaat Secretary stressed that a fully elected government should be responsible for implementing comprehensive reforms.
However, he pointed out that before any elections take place, the interim government must first reform six or seven key government institutions to ensure a fair process.
The gathering was presided over by Bhola District Jamaat’s Amir, Muhammad Zakir Hossain. Other notable speakers included Assistant Secretary General Advocate Muazzam Hossain Helal, Central Working Committee member Principal Zahir Uddin Mohammad Babar, Central Majlis-e-Shura member Dr. A. J. M. Obaidullah, Central Majlis-e-Shura member A. K. M. Fakhruddin Khan Razi, District Secretary Harunur Rashid, former District Amir Maulana Fazlul Karim, and former student leader Mustafa Kamal.
With rising political tensions, this call for reforms and a clear election plan comes at a time when the public`s trust in fair elections has been shaken. Professor Parwar’s strong statements have added fuel to the ongoing political debates in the country.
