The Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has decided to expel Gazi Nazrul Islam, the Member of Parliament for Satkhira-4 constituency, from the party following allegations of moral misconduct.

A special emergency meeting of the party’s Central Executive Council was held today (Wednesday) at 4:00pm. The meeting took place at the official residence of the opposition leader on Minto Road in the capital and was chaired by Jamaat Ameer and MP Dr. Shafiqur Rahman. Members of the Central Executive Council were present at the meeting.

The party said that an internal organisational investigation into reports published by various media outlets regarding MP Gazi Nazrul Islam found evidence of moral misconduct. Based on the findings, the council decided to expel him from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami under Article 62 of the party’s constitution.

The meeting also decided to immediately notify the Bangladesh Election Commission of his expulsion from the organisation.
