Syed Abdullah Muhammad Taher, Naib Amir of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, has claimed that several advisers of the interim government are engaged in conspiracies, and that he possesses their names and voice recordings.
Speaking at a human chain organized at the Matsya Bhaban intersection in Dhaka on Tuesday, he said he also has information about the statements these advisers make in meetings.
Without naming any political party, Taher alleged that a particular party is attempting to orchestrate a “blueprint election” by placing its affiliates in key civil and police administration positions. He expressed doubt over the possibility of a fair national election under such circumstances.
Addressing the interim government, Taher said, “I want to draw the government’s attention today. I am not here to issue a warning yet. The ongoing conspiracy and the condition of the administration must be stopped. Appoint neutral and honest individuals to important positions. If not, we have the names of advisers involved in the conspiracy and their voice records. We know what they say in meetings. We are not revealing this to the public now but giving a chance for correction. If timely action is not taken, their names will be publicly disclosed.”
This human chain, held from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm along the road from Jatrabari to Gabtoli in Dhaka, was part of Jamaat-e-Islami’s campaign demanding inclusion of the public administration in the national registry through the PR system, among five other demands. The gathering included a brief assembly at the Matsya Bhaban intersection.
Taher further criticized the government’s recent appointments, saying, “The selection of a secretary in the public administration a few days ago ignored our advice. This position is crucial before elections, as it oversees the appointment of CSP officers and divisional commissioners. Neutral and qualified individuals should have been placed there. Yet, the appointee has a long history of corruption and full loyalty to a particular party, having held various roles in student and political organizations affiliated with that party.”
He added, “We observe that four to five advisers are controlling all appointments in favor of one party, attempting to turn the government into a partisan administration. Discussions with police officials reveal similar pressure to appoint party-affiliated individuals.”
Reiterating Jamaat’s demand for a national referendum by mid-November, Taher said, “The referendum is now a unified decision for all, but attempts are being made to manipulate the process, including combining the referendum with national elections.”
The human chain was presided over by Nurul Islam, Amir of Dhaka Metropolitan South, with Rezaul Karim, Secretary of Dhaka Metropolitan North, acting as convenor. Other speakers included Assistant Secretary General A.T.M. Masum, Ehsanul Mahbub Zobayer, and Abdul Halim.
