Ending rumors, the Jatiya Party declared today, December 17, that it would stay in the race during the national elections, slated for 7 January.
At a press conference held after the party meeting, which started at 11:00 a.m. at the Banani office of the party chairman, JaPa general secretary Mujibul Haque Chunnu said that the party is going to take part in the polls, citing a satisfactory election environment.
"Not under any alliance, the Jatiya Party will participate in the election under its own symbol," Chunnu said.
"Towards impartial elections, the government is directing the Election Commission. In light of this, the commission has promised to assist us in any way they can as elections get near.
"That`s why, from our side, our chairman`s side, I urge that all Jatiya Party candidates (to bear in mind) participate in the national elections, so that it is fair and competitive. We will work with that aim," Chunnu added.
He reaffirmed that the party would contest in 283 seats as decided earlier.
