“The next five to six days will determine where we are heading,” said Shafiqul Alam, Press Secretary to Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, signaling a crucial moment in Bangladesh’s evolving political landscape.
Speaking at a discussion hosted by the Bangladesh Secretariat Reporters Forum on Thursday, he underscored the critical nature of the current political juncture and reassured that the national election will proceed without delay.
He stressed, “One thing is certain—there will be no delay in the election. It will take place exactly within the timeline set by the Chief Adviser. Not a single day beyond that.”
According to Shafiqul Alam, work is actively underway around the ‘July Charter’ and the ‘July Declaration’. With the anniversary of the July Uprising approaching on August 5, he indicated that preparations are intensifying in that context.
He also recalled that Professor Yunus initially mentioned April as the target for elections and later, in London, said it could be moved to February if substantial reforms were enacted.
Forum president Masudul Haque and general secretary Ubaydullah Badol also addressed the event.
