The government has decided to form a judicial investigation committee to look into the attack on Gono Odhikar Parishad (GOP) president Nurul Haque Nur.
Shafiqul Alam, press secretary to the Chief Adviser, announced the decision on Saturday afternoon during a press briefing in front of Jamuna Future Park in Dhaka.
Shafiqul Alam stated that Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus will hold meetings with top leaders of various political parties to discuss the current political situation and law-and-order conditions in the country.
The purpose of the meetings is to ensure a peaceful and stable environment through dialogue. According to the schedule, the Chief Adviser will meet with the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) at 3:00 PM, Jamaat-e-Islami at 4:30 PM, and the National Citizens’ Party (NCP) at 6:00 PM.
The announcement follows a clash on Friday evening between the Jatiya Party (JaPa) and GOP leaders and activists.
The confrontation occurred when a GOP procession was passing by the JaPa office. Law enforcement intervened during the incident.
Later, while preparing for a press conference in front of the GOP office, several GOP leaders, including Nurul Haque Nur, were seriously injured in baton charges by the authorities.
Currently, Nurul Haque Nur is receiving treatment in the ICU of Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Doctors reported that he sustained a fractured skull, as well as severe injuries to his nasal bone and right jaw.
There is minor internal bleeding in his head, but medical professionals have confirmed that his condition is stable. His eyes and face are swollen, and blood has pooled in his eyes.
Considering the severity of the injuries, a medical board has been formed to oversee his continuous care. No other significant injuries have been detected on his body, according to the medical team.
