Home Affairs Adviser Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has announced that nationwide security operations will continue until the upcoming national elections.
He cited the need to recover lost weapons and maintain law and order as key reasons for the ongoing drives.
Speaking to reporters on Monday (August 4) after a meeting of the Core Committee on Law and Order, the adviser said, “We have lost a significant number of weapons. These must be recovered, and for that, the operations will continue until the election.”
When asked about public fear surrounding August 5, he responded, “There were similar concerns around August 3 as well, but by the grace of God, no incidents occurred. Since the current government took office, law and order has gradually improved and is now in a much better state than before.”
Despite these improvements, the adviser acknowledged that the law and order situation has not yet reached the desired level. “It’s up to you to judge how much it has improved,” he said to journalists.
Responding to questions about specific alerts for August 5, he emphasized that authorities remain vigilant. “We are always on alert, and we are maintaining that posture now as well,” he stated.
