Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader on Friday said foreigners are poking their noses in the business of Bangladesh unlike other democratic countries in the world, reports UNB.
“The European leaders come here after every few days though we don’t invite them. But where do so many guests come from? The European and American guests come here not informing us,” he said.
The AL leader was addressing a discussion arranged by Dhaka University Chhatra League at TSC auditorium to commemorate Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and other martyrs of the August 15 carnage.
Referring to the recent Niger coup, he said they don’t show so much interest with any other democratic country. “There is a game here. They don`t have so much headache with any other democratic country,” he said.
Not naming the USA, Quader said they issue threats, impose sanctions and announce the visa policy.
He said the new US visa policy can be applied against BNP. “The main thing is that the new US visa policy would be applied against those who undermine the election. BNP is doing such work. We’re not doing so. We want elections. We want peaceful elections,” he added.
“We’ll also see what is the meaning of this sanction and against whom this visa policy will be applied in case of plans of arson violence in the name of election,” said the AL leader.
Ruling out the BNP’s demand for a caretaker government, the general secretary said there is no sign of such a government anywhere in the world except Pakistan.
“Fakhrul Saheb, if you want the caretaker government, go to Pakistan. There is even no sign of the caretaker government in any other place in the world,” he said, pointing at BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
