According to a UK study published Tuesday, monkeypox patients can transmit the virus up to four days before symptoms appear, with more than half of transmissions potentially occurring during this time.
The research revealed that although the results have not been confirmed, they show that many cases of monkeypox infections cannot be prevented by instructing patients to isolate once they realize that they are infected.
Out of more than 77,000 cases since May, when the virus unexpectedly began spreading outside of West African nations where it has long been endemic, monkeypox has claimed the lives of 36 people, according to the World Health Organization.
